Insights That Matter

Sense-Making for Change

About the Workshop

We all want to make impact in the work that we do. One of the best ways is to reveal a key truth in the world that our stakeholders are not yet aware of. When you see your audience go “Aha!” and a lightbulb turns on in their minds, it can be a powerful motivator that drives your stakeholders to take meaningful action.

You may also have seen experienced people link disparate data points into a coherent and powerful insight at the snap of a finger. Do you wonder how they did it and whether you will ever get there?

At Studio Dojo, we believe such a process of crafting impactful truths is not just God-given talent and can be learnt and practised by everyone, including you!

Whether you’re a beginner building your foundations or a seasoned practitioner looking to become more intentional in your craft, this is a hands-on workshop that delves into the messiness of sense-making, offering you a reflexive space to learn how to analyse and synthesise qualitative data through guided practice. This workshop will cover topics like how to work with data, structure your insight statements and present them with impact.

What You’ll Learn

  1. Different processes when working with data: categorising, clustering and layering
  2. Conceptual and emotional frameworks for interpreting data
  3. How our existing mental models help or hinder the sense-making process
  4. The 5 criteria for what makes a good insight
  5. How to present insights effectively

This is for you if…

  • You want to improve your analysis skills as a UX/design researcher, design thinking practitioner, or team member involved in any form of qualitative or action research.
  • You wonder what is in the “black box” of creating powerful insights from qualitative data.
  • Your team members or stakeholders have described your research findings as “obvious”, “uninspiring” or “sounds duh”.
  • What you thought were strong findings which didn’t seem to have an effect on your audience.
  • You want more quality and consistency in your sense-making skills.
