(In)visible Facilitation: Meetings & Dynamics

The (In)visible Facilitation series

Our intention with this line of workshops is to move beyond the typical methods to reveal the invisible skills required for effective facilitation. We want you to be able to pay attention to the subtle, yet impactful, nuances that your participants may not notice. That level of intentionality and continued practice will differentiate you as you progress in your career.

About the Workshop

Many sessions are well-designed, yet something still feels off.

The conversation flows, but certain voices are missing.
Agreement is reached, but not fully owned.
Tension is present, but remains unspoken.

Even with the right tools and structure, the group does not quite move.

This is because in every group, three things are happening at once—what is being discussed, how the work is structured, and how people are relating to one another. Most facilitators are trained to manage the first two. Few are able to see and work with the third.

This 3-day workshop focuses on developing that third capability. Through practice and reflection, participants will learn to recognise patterns that emerge in groups, understand what they signal, and work with them in ways that are appropriate to their role. The emphasis is not on controlling the group, but on increasing awareness of the invisible—so that the group can function with greater clarity, ownership, and effectiveness.

What You’ll Learn

  1. How to distinguish between content, task process, and group dynamics—and why this matters when you’re in the room
  2. How to observe group dynamics in real-time without rushing to intervene
  3. Common group patterns (e.g. silence, dominance, quick agreement) and the invisible forces they reflect
  4. A clear process to improve interactions between team members
  5. Practical ways to respond within your role and constraints
  6. How to use different levels of debrief to deepen team awareness and learning

This is for you if…

  • You sense that something is happening in the room, but find it hard to name or respond to
  • You facilitate or lead sessions where group participation feels uneven or surface-level
  • You notice patterns like silence, dominance, or quick agreement, but are unsure what to do
  • You work with teams (e.g. in design, product, or projects) and want to improve how they function together
  • You want to engage the group without overstepping your role or disrupting the session
  • You are looking for practical ways to build awareness and capability in your team over time
